The Three Watch Collection for $5,000: Reader Edition – Alexander Sandlass

Editor’s Note: For this edition of The Three Watch Collection for $5,000, we have a selection from watch and gear enthusiast Alexander Sandlass. These three pieces run the gamut in terms of pricing (and Alexander takes advantage of pre-owned pricing for one heavy hitter) but all are icons in their own way. Just Because – Audemars Piguet Unveils an Unprecedented Polychrome Camouflage Gold Alloy

Earlier this year, alongside multiple new watches such as the RO Perpetual with John Mayer and the Sand Gold alloy applied to an RO Openworked Tourbillon, Audemars Piguet also presented an unexpected and entirely novel multi-coloured ceramic called chroma ceramic featuring a polarising but cool camouflage pattern. In the same vein, Audemars Piguet now applies […]

The Incredible Nivada Grenchen F77 Stone Dials

Of all the topics often discussed within the watch world, many are esoteric and maybe even a little silly to non watch enthusiasts. Inscrutable changes in text, minute differences measured in millimeters, you get the idea. To the average consumer, these things don’t mean much. To them, a glossy-dial Submariner 5513 with a gilt underline dial […] The post The Incredible Nivada Grenchen F77 Stone Dials appeared first on Worn & Wound.

From the Editor: Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Ladies Quartz ref. 66270. What the New Mini Royal Oak Should've Been.

Today, Audemars Piguet presented a new version of the Royal Oak named the Mini in a 23 mm size and referred to it as a ‘comeback’. In AP’s words: “A glowing come back for the mighty Mini Royal Oak, offered for the first time in a 23 mm diameter and executed in a choice of 18-carat yellow, white or pink Frosted gold.” In reality, not really a comeback. If it’s a real comeback, it cannot be referred to as: “the first time for this size.” Not sure who’s now in charge of marketing at Audemars Piguet but they need to hire some new copywriters and quit being a one-trick pony.

One of the now well-established independent watchmakers of the Dutch scene, Holthinrichs has been from the earliest stages of its development focused on a rather unique feature; 3D-printed cases made in all sorts of materials (including steel, titanium, bronze or gold). Of course, there’s more to the brand than just that, including a strong design […]

First Look – Two New Gold Versions of the AP Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked 37mm

Openworked or skeletonised watches are treats for the more mechanical-minded admirers of watchmaking, and the more complex the movement, the better. In 2016, Audemars Piguet increased the viewing pleasure two-fold when it unveiled its Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked ref. 15407. As its name indicates, the movement was equipped with two balance wheels, one […]
